GABBA and the Algeciras club DAMEX UDEA, whose President and majority shareholder is Gibraltarian Sam Buxton, a prominent member of Gibraltar’s National Team, set off on an ambitious project, designed to expose our very young players to a more competitive level of basketball than they have here and, as a result, raise the standard of our National Teams in years to come.Boys and girls selections at under 16 and under 12 categories, and a boys under 14 selection, will play under the name DAMEX UDEA GABBA in the Cádiz Provincial League competitions this season, with the home games being played in Algeciras. This is a big opportunity which has been gladly accepted by GABBA, in the knowledge that there is nothing better than regular competition of this type to attract boys and girls to basketball.Immediate benefits will, hopefully, be reaped by the under 16 selections, who will, no doubt use these competitions as valuable preparation for the FIBA Europe competitions in July next year. They start competing this weekend, when 3 teams will all be travelling. The u16 girls play twice: on Friday in Conil, against Mergablo (tip-off 8:15 pm) and on Sunday in Ubrique, against CABU (tip-off 11:00 am);The u16 boys play against Chipiona on Sunday (tip-off 11:45 am).The u14 boys play on Sunday in Ubrique, against CABU (tip-off 11:00 am).
